I’m sick of wasting money on cigarettes, but I just can’t stop smoking-any hints or tips for me?

Self control is hard, so hard I think you should try loving yourself and say I love my body so maybe you won’t want to hurt it anymore.

Just don’t buy them! If you don’t buy them, then you can’t smoke them, saving you from burning a hole in your lungs, and your pocket :)

Book a hypnotist, its obviously just a psychological thing, you have a habit of smoking that’s all… or is it that psychologically your over it but you Just have a physical addiction.. either way a good dose of hypnosis will sort it.

Have you tried the patch or gum? The combination of the two helped my uncle and he hasn’t had a cigarette in 9 years. Good luck to you and I hope you can quit!

Instead of quitting try a substitute for it, so say gum, mints, etc. patches work well to.

When you see your cigs going down tell yourself no more when they end.
Make sure you have none for when you wake up.Pop into a government
stop smoking shop and have a talk and get a letter for a prescription for
Champix tablets.Or get them from your doctor.I’ve been off them for over 5
    weeks now using these tablets.

Switch to rollies - they’re much cheaper.

Sorry, I mean if you’re serious your doctor can refer you an NHS stop smoking group. But I’m of the opinion that if you start making a big deal of these things it becomes a much larger issue in your mind.

Pick a date, tell yourself you can have one ciggy in the morning and one before bed. The following week, stop. Chuck out all smoking related objects. Keep busy and active to keep your mind off smoking, and reward yourself with something for each day you are smoke free.

It would help to know whether you’re an American or a Brit. If you’re a Brit, the National Health Service run very good personalised ’stop smoking’ programmes which treat each case according to each persons needs and difficulties, just ask your GP or drop into any NHS clinic in your area to get information.
If you’re American, bad luck, you have no such thing as a national health service.

Your question is not correct. You said that you "can’t" stop smoking. Of course you can, otherwise you wouldn’t bother to try, would you? People do it every day. What you mean is that you WON’T quit. No one is holding a gun to your head to make you smoke. YOU control your hands and light the cancer-stick and put it in your mouth.

Yes it will be hard and feel crappy AT FIRST when you are quitting. I smoked for 10 years and quit. A couple things that helped me were that I kept in mind that every day past stopping will get easier. You are going through a drug withdreawl. You are a drug addict. Eventually all the drug will get out of your system and the physical desire will be gone. Another thing that helped me was the mental trick - there is only ONE cigarette that you have to worry about not smoking - the NEXT one. The job is no bigger than that - just don’t smoke that ONE NEXT cigarette. If you stick with it then it will DEFINITELY be worth it. Keep in mind the POSITIVE things - all the money you will save, better health, not being smelly all the time and when the negative thoughts come into your head like how crappy you feel and how much you want a smole instantly replace them with one of the positive thoughts. Exercise helps a lot too. Start wealking, keep busy. Don’t just sit around and think about it. GOOD LUCK!

As an x-smoker, and one who has had to quit several times, I have had a few different ways that I did quit. I had been several years in between when I thought I could have one just to remember what I had once done and fell right back into the trap, except for this last time. It’s been since 86 since I had my last cigarette. One time I actually switched to cigars and used them for about a month before getting off of them. Another time I remember when I reached for a cigarette, especially when I was at work, I would stop and just tell myself that I would wait a few minutes more. I would look at the clock again and half an hour had passed. I gave myself credit for not having had one the first time and I would try to wait another ‘5 minutes’. I would give in at some point and end up having 4 or 5 in the course of a day instead of the pack I had been smoking and found I could get rid of those in a short period of time. The last time I quit was right after the big law suit because I told myself I couldn’t afford them and haven’t had one since.

You can stop smoking, but you have to want to. Start by not going anywhere that sells cigarettes or tobacco. That way you won’t buy any or waste money on them

I quit cold turkey after smoking for 5 years. It sucked. you’ll be miserable. If you have the money, get a prescription for Chantix. I had a friend smoke 2 packs a day and quit completely after about 2 weeks on that stuff. Good luck!

Go see your doctor. You really need help with this to break the various cycles involved.
Besides your bodys need for nicotine (which can be abated with patches), you also need help to avoid the "after dinner" cigarette routine, and "first puff" morning routine. - Even the problem of how to keep your hands busy.

Ask for help - there is plenty on offer if you ask.

Think of all the money you’d save - maybe pay off a debt or go on holiday with the money you save.

Every time you buy cigarettes throw away 3
………For instance today you buy a pack throw away 3
Tomorrow if you buy another throw away 3 more which is gonna be six
Keep throwing away 3 cigarettes more so you can get used to it until you don’t have any left
And you would probably quit smoking

Yes; view section 52, on addictions, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on GIVING UP SMOKING and try the free hypnosis, to help you focus, nicotine patches, or gum, and join a support group, etc.

BTW, stopping wasting money is insufficient motivation, of itself; you will need more, or your first time quitting chances are slim.
