I am having problems Quitting smoking anyone have any suggestions?
December 3rd, 2008 | by Jeff Trikoleti |
I think I have tried everything and nothing is working, so either I have no will power or the companies who make the (stop smoking products) have not come up with a product that will help me yet.
It is very difficult but you can do it. Try substituting for other things…and a healthier habit. Drink herbal tea, eat raw vegetables or chew gum (as a last resort).
Look at what you miss about it. Do you feel the need to be occupied by something? To keep your hands busy? Do you smoke while doing other activities. Try to avoid those for a while.
You do have the power to do it. If you have a craving, just acknowledge it and take a deep breath (enjoy how you can breathe better). Move on to something else. The cravings will go away…they are only temporary.
Try to remember how filthy of a habit it is; Bad for your health & wallet, yellows your teeth, gives you wrinkles and makes you smell really horrible to non-smokers. It also makes your voice nasty as you age. I'm sure you know all this but it is easy to forget when you want to give in to a craving.

Your doctor can prescribe medication that helps reduce anixety associated with nicotine withdrawl. My doctor prescribes wellbutrian. Go to your doctor and ask for help. If I can do it, anybody can. You can do it!!! Good Luck!!

I'm with you. I also have tried to quit many times. Guess what? I still smoke. If you figure this out let me know.

Me too. Tried over and over again. I finally decided that nobody likes a quiter anyway. Which presented the following dilema: why is it so darn easy to quit trying to quit smoking?

I am going through the same thing too. It is helping some that everyone who is smoking doen't do it around me and I cannot smell it. I have not tried it yet but I have heard from other ppl that welbutrin (sp?) helps the cravings. I am thinking of trying that. I have started to walk in place of smoking, but that doesn't seem to kill the cravings. But by the time I am done walking, I am pretty winded and cannot imagine lighting up. I wish you good luck.

very very simple. grow up and just don't smoke.
I quit from one day to the next after smoking for 12 years 2 packs a day. it is just a choice. like losing weight. very simple grow up and choose. I did not say it will be easy.you cannot have both. just focus on the rewards of not smoking. like living better and longer. just think of the money you save. with the money you save by not smoking, buy your self something nice for your self with that money. today if you smoke 2 packs a day thats about $8.00 a day right! thats $240.- a month you could spend on something really nice. and you won't be a slave to that dam cigarette
realize it is really a disgusting thing to do. focus on how wonderful it will be to be free and in better control of your life.tell yourself you can do it. YOU CAN DO IT. Be smoke free

Beef up your will-power. Think of the best reasons that will motivate you to stop smoking: 1) Healthwise and finance-wise–you are not only burning money (high cost of cigarettes plus tax), but you are also burning your lungs and eventually your body. Invest your money for a healthy tomorrow. 2) Be considerate to the people you're living or working with–second-hand smoke is dangerous; ditto with the people who go to public places to enjoy them, especially in restaurants. 3)There's no denying that when you smoke, your teeth, gums, lips and skin are being discolored–they look awful. 4) And smokers exude an awfully bad smell! I know you're aware of these effects of smoking, but please take them as a reminder. Better still, put up posters in your room reminding you of the dreadful effects of smoking. Take it from me. I was a smoker for 8 years on and off–but I quit cold turkey.

It’s kinda weird when I decided to quit smoking. I just out of the blue made my mind up to quit. Was it hard? Of course, I had cravings and had thoughts of going to the store and buying a pack “just in case” I couldn’t handle the cravings. After a couple days, it began getting easier. I would drink bottled water, take a nap, soak in a hot bath, watch tv anything to occupy my mind. It’s been 3 weeks now and I am thrilled. I was a smoker for 12 years and I’ll turn 32 end of April, this is the best decision for you and your family. You can do it, I did. Cigarettes don’t have a brain, they can only control you if you let them. Good luck.
